Electro-Pneumatic Braking system for Freight Trains: DIRCO/ New York Air Brake.
Knightronix designed and developed the control and
communications electronics and software for an Electronically
Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) Brake system (EP-60) for freight
trains. Initially developed by Knightronix and Duluth & Iron
Range Company (DIRCO), the technology is now owned by New York
Air Brake Corporation. Benefits of an ECP brake system include a
70% reduction in stopping distance, improved train handling,
graduated release, train instrumentation and reduced fuel costs.
