Knightronix designed the communication and control
system and software for the EP-60, an Electronically Controlled Pneumatic
(ECP) Brake system for freight trains. Initially developed in
Minnesota by Knightronix and Duluth &
Iron Range Companies (DIRCO), the technology is now owned by New
York Air Brake Corporation.
Benefits of an ECP brake system include a 70%
reduction in stopping distance, improved train handling, graduated
release, reduced fuel costs and instrumentation.
