Knightronix developed a high
speed, high resolution image correlator and tracker for the United
States Army under a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
contract.
The correlator/tracker was
implemented on a VME board that was installed and operated in a
68040 computer. The correlator operated at 1000 frames/second
which surpassed the army requirement of 300 frames/second. A photo
of the 8-layer prototype board is shown at the left.
A custom chip was developed
for the correlator, using LSI Logic, Inc. chip development facility.
Eight chips were used for the correlator/tracker. The chip was
designed such that a single chip could alternatively perform the
fingerprint matching function.
